Matt Dodge was the Giants 7th round draft pick in the 2010 NFL draft. He is the starting punter of Big Blue who take on the Philadelphia Eagles tomorrow. Last season at East Carolina, Dodge was a All-America 1st-team selection by The NFL Draft Report and 2nd team choice by College Football News, Sports Illustrated and The Sporting News. Dodge is also notable for being a great player in Madden 11. The interview was conducted Monday at the MDA Muscle Team dinner for Muscular Dystrophy. Many Jets and Giants stars are attending the MDA's big dinner January 4th. If interested in meeting Braylon Edwards, Hakeem Nicks, and tons of other NFL players go to http://www.nymuscleteam.org/

Here is my interview with Mr. Dodge:

Brad Wolff: When did you start punting and playing football?

Matt Dodge: I played soccer growing up until high school when I switched over and have been playing since then.

BW: What do you think about punters making the Hall of Fame?

MD: Wow. I know Ray Guy is on the ballot. It is one of those positions where unless you play it you can't appreciate it as much as me. It is a very important position. I can't sit here and say that they deserve it more than a quarterback or running back, but I am all for it.

BW: What is your take on football's helmet to helmet injuries?

MD: I don't get hit much, but they don't look very comfortable [chuckling].

BW: Coming after many great punters in Giants history, how do you plan on keeping the legacy going?

MD: The big thing for me is to keep getting better and utilize what G-d's given and blessed me with. I have really strong legs, I just have to continue to work on my consistency and just keep getting better.

BW: Are there tougher stadiums to play in than others?

MD: Well, I haven't played in too many, but luckily most of our away games have been in a bowl, I mean dome so far. There hasn't been one that's too bad.

BW: We've seen players such as Ndamukong Suh and Wes Welker kick extra points recently, can you, in case of emergency kick some extra points for Big Blue?

MD: Absolutely!
