VIDEO: Talking with Tar Heels and Lakers Legend James Worthy
The 28th Buonconti Fund Great Sports Legends Dinner, last night, marks the beginning of what feels like my version of Mariano's farewell tour. All these events I've attended, since I was squeaky voiced and standing on my tippy-toes to position my recorder in front of an athlete's mouth, will be replaced by the events in the city I attend college next year. With that, without gifts from each New York event I hold close to my heart, let's kick off the school year with one of my favorite videos of my young career.
The first video of the season comes from the Waldorf Astoria in midtown with University of North Carolina and Los Angeles Lakers legend James Ager Worthy. "Big Game James", a member of The NBA's 50 Greatest Players list, took home championships both in Chapel Hill and at the old Forum in downtown L.A. The philanthropy Worthy has been able to do since his retirement from the NBA in 1994 earned him the recognition he deserved at the Buoniconti Fund's annual gala last night.
Chatting with Worthy about his on-court mentality and goggles was a great moment for me, but when I asked "Big Game" the short-take questions on his alma mater's application, the interview earned a spot on my all-time favorite interview list. Coming later this week are Q&A's I did with golf great and analyst Nick Faldo, Yankees Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, Pro Football Hall of Famers Nick Buoniconti and Harry Carson, and NHL Hall of Famer Brian Leetch. Hope you enjoy the video!
